A four-vehicle wreck Friday afternoon in Cass County claimed the life of a 44-year old man from Butler, MO.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the wreck just after 2:00, on I-49 at Route C.

According to the online crash report, a Toyota Tundra slowed down due to congested traffic when a 2004 Peterbilt Tractor Trailer locked its brakes and skidded into the rear of the Toyota, causing the Toyota to overturn and travel off the road.

The Peterbilt then struck a Dodge Caravan and a Chevy Traverse.

The driver of the Toyota, 44-year old Karl O. Blaser, of Butler, MO, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was taken to the Jackson County Medical Examiner's office.

The driver of the Peterbilt, 63-year old Perry L. Mcleod, of Aurora, MO, was reportedly uninjured.

The drivers and passengers in the Dodge and Chevy suffered injuries ranging from minor to moderate. All were taken to hospitals in the Kansas City area.

According to the report, everyone involved was wearing safety devices.
