Casper (Wyo.) Police Saturday revealed additional details that emerged in Friday’s murder-suicide at Casper College.Police said a man used a compound bow and arrow to shoot his father in the head in front of a computer science class the father was teaching. He then stabbed both himself and his father multiple times. Prior to the attack at the school, the assailant fatally stabbed his father’s live-in girlfriend at their home, police said.

Authorities said that Christopher Krumm, 25, of Vernon, Conn. shot his father James Krumm, 56, in front of four to six students inside room 325 of the Wold Physical Science Center just after 9 a.m. local time on Friday. Police arrived to find James Krumm dead and Christopher Krumm clinging to life. He died soon afterward.

Casper Police Chief Chris Walsh lauded the elder Krumm’s efforts, saying he may have saved his students’ lives by struggling with his son while the students fled the classroom. Walsh said Christopher Krumm hid the compound bow and two very large knives beneath a blanket to sneak the weapons on to campus.

Before the attack at the campus, police say Christopher Krumm stabbed Heidi Arnold, 42, his father’s live-in girlfriend and also a Casper College instructor, at their home on Hawthorne St. in the city, then proceeded to the college.

The campus remained on lockdown for two hours on Friday while police secured the scene. Students described a frightening and tense environment as police responded to the reports of the classroom attack.

Police believe Christopher Krumm planned the attacks and acted alone. They have not identified a motive for the killings, but they are reviewing notes and other information the killer left behind.

Walsh praised emergency responders and the support given by the community to those affected by the attacks.
