Afternoon News June 19, 2014, Law Docket For June 16&17 2014 From The Office Of The Prosecuting Attorney, Jeff Mittlehauser

The following cases were taken up during the June 16&17 Law Day docket:

 38-year-old Jose Alarcon of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to two counts of driving without a valid license, offenses which occurred on August 3 and October 3.  The offenses were felonies because the defendant has three prior convictions for the same crime.  He was sentenced to serve 4 years in prison and will be considered for probation after serving 120 day of shock incarceration 

Richard Batzel 27 of Sedalia, was sentenced to serve 2.5 years in prison on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.  Sedalia Police Officers arrested the defendant on October 13 after finding clonazepam in his possession.  After pleading guilty in December, the defendant was released from custody so he could be screened for admission into the Drug Court Program.  He later failed to appear in court.

19-year-old Jacob Bryan of Sedalia pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and was admitted into the Drug Court Program.  The Sedalia Police Department’s S.T.I.N.G. Unit arrested the defendant October 4 after finding methamphetamine in his possession during the execution of a search warrant on Buckner Court.  Charges will be dismissed if the defendant successfully completes the Drug Court Program.

Cody Hall 18 of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, admitting he was in possession of a pipe with methamphetamine residue when he was arrested by Sedalia Police Officers on June 12, 2013.  The defendant was sentenced to serve 120 days in jail.

25-year-old Stephen Lappat of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to burglary and stealing, offenses which were committed in August of 2011 at a rental home on E. 7^th Street.  Sedalia Police Officers collected evidence at the crime scene.  Recently completed DNA testing produced a match with the defendant.  He was sentenced to serve 7 years in prison.  Lappat also pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance, a charge based on methamphetamine found in his possession when Sedalia Police Officers arrested him on an outstanding warrant April 10.  The defendant was sentenced to serve 10 years as a persistent drug offender. 

Amber Lawson 29 of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana, a charge arising from the Sedalia Police Department’s S.T.I.N.G. Unit’s execution of a search warrant at a Sedalia motel March 3, 2013.  The case was continued to July 21 for sentencing. 

43-year-old Tammy Lee of Sedalia pleaded guilty to stealing metal from Maxion Wheels in September and October of 2013.  When questioned by Pettis County Sheriff’s Deputies the defendant admitted she took copper and brass and sold the items for scrap.  Execution of a 7 year sentence was suspended and the defendant was placed on probation for 5 years with requirements that she serve 60 days of shock detention and pay restitution.

Christopher  Quick age 24 of Sedalia pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and was admitted into the Drug Court Program.  The Sedalia Police Department’s S.T.I.N.G. Unit served a search warrant December 3 at the defendant’s home on West 10^th Street and found methamphetamine in his possession.  Charges will be dismissed if the defendant successfully completes the Drug Court Program.

51-year-old Gina Robinson of Sedalia pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to serve 7 years in prison.  Sedalia Police Officers found oxycodone and hydromorphone in the defendant’s possession while investigating a shoplifting call January 15. 

Adam Smith 28 of Warrensburg, pleaded guilty to passing bad checks totaling about $940 in 2010.  He was sentenced to serve 3 years in prison, where he is currently serving another sentence. 

42-year-old Melissa Stout of Sedalia pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and was admitted into the Pettis County Drug Court Program.  Officers with the Sedalia Police Department’s S.T.I.N.G. Unit found methamphetamine in the defendant’s possession February 12 while serving a search warrant on North Woodlawn.  If the defendant successfully completes the Drug Court Program, charges will be dismissed.

Christopher Tanner 30 of Sedalia  pleaded guilty to driving without a valid license, a felony due to the defendant’s prior convictions for the same offense.  He was placed on probation for 5 years with a requirement that he serve 30 days of shock detention. 

Da’Von Williams 20 of Sedalia pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.  On February 26, Sedalia Police Officers found 6 grams of marijuana and 4 grams of methamphetamine in the defendant’s possession during a traffic stop.  He was sentenced to serve 7 years in prison. 

20-year-old Xavier Zuniga of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to three counts of driving while revoked, charges arising from separate incidents on May 9, 2013, July 8, 2013 and February 18, 2014.   The charges were felonies because the defendant has four prior convictions for various offenses.  He was sentenced to serve 4 years in prison.

 Rebecca Bell 30-years –old of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to stealing.  During an investigation conducted by Sedalia Police Detectives the defendant admitted she stole three window air conditioners from her landlord and sold them for scrap.  The case was continued for sentencing.

30-year-old Brandon Carlock of Sedalia, was sentenced to serve one year in jail for possession of a controlled substance.  Sedalia Police Officers found methamphetamine in the defendant’s possession after a December 30, 2012 arrest for a misdemeanor assault.  After pleading guilty and while awaiting sentencing, the defendant was again arrested for possession of a controlled substance, a charge which remains pending. 

Wayne  Coslet 59 of Sedalia, was found to have violated the terms of his probation by committing the offense of burglary at a vacant home near Houstonia March 27.  He was placed on probation early this year after pleading guilty to unlawful use of a weapon in connection with an argument with a family member.  The Court ordered a sentence assessment report and scheduled sentencing for July 29.

Amber Wilson age 24 of Sedalia, was ordered to serve a 4 year sentence when her probation was revoked on a burglary charge.  She violated her probation by using controlled substances and failing to report to her probation officer.  The Court ordered that the defendant complete the Institutional Treatment Program and may grant probation after 120 days.
