The following crime reports are from the afternoon of Feb. 20, 2013.

Sedalia man arrested for making false 911 calls

The Sedalia Police and Pettis County Sheriff’s Departments reported a case involving 61 false 911 calls that were made by the same person between the Nov. 5, 2012 and Feb. 12, 2013. Some of the calls were hang-up calls, while the remainder were calls of a serious nature involving arson or guns, which caused responses of several police, fire and sheriff’s cars being dispatched. A press release from the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office states that 25-year-old Michael James of Sedalia was arrested in the case on Tuesday, Feb. 19 and was being held in the Pettis County Jail pending a $5000 bond.

Local car lot reports the theft of a truck and other items Monday evening

On Monday evening, a complainant with Katy Motors located at 4343 South Limit filed a theft complaint with the Sedalia Police. According to the complainant, someone stole a truck, a car hauler trailer, and other items from the parking lot of the business sometime between midnight and 3:00 that morning. During the investigation, the truck was recovered in Benton County, but the trailer and tools were still missing at the time of the police report. There is a suspect in the case according to the report.

Murphy USA receives a bogus $100 bill, suspect is on video

Just before 2:00 Tuesday afternoon, an employee of Murphy USA located at 3203 West Broadway reported she had received a counterfeit $100 bill on Monday. The police report states there is security video in evidence that shows the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle. The case is currently under investigation.

Local antique store on South Engineer targeted by thieves

Around noon on Tuesday, a victim in the 500 block of South Engineer reported thefts from his antique store to the Sedalia Police. The victim told officers that several items had been stolen with a collective value of $375. The victim also provided the police with information on possible suspects in the case.

Woman’s iPhone is stolen while she is at work

At 4:20 Tuesday afternoon, a female victim called the police station to report her iPhone valued at $500 was stolen from her while she was at work at the Sylvia Thompson Nursing Home. There were no suspects at the time of the police report.

Burglary complaint filed by a woman in the 800 block of Vermont

Around 8:30 Tuesday morning, Sedalia police investigated a burglary report in the 800 block of South Vermont. According to the owner of the home, someone had damaged a basement window to gain entry to the house. Once inside, the thieves stole approximately 20 feet of waterline. The burglary took place sometime after the Feb. 3 according to the victim.

Staples reports gutter downspouts have been damaged on the building

At 9:00 Tuesday morning, the manager of the Staples Store at 3601 West Broadway filed a property damage complaint with Sedalia police. The manager reported several downspouts in the rear of the building have been damaged. Damages are estimated to be less than $150 according to the police report, and there were no suspects at news time.
