Sedalia woman in jail for 1st degree assault involving a weapon

Just after 4pm Saturday afternoon Sedalia Police conducted a warrant check at a residence in the 200 block of Scott Joplin Court. Upon contact with the suspect, 27-year-old Sharde Smith the warrant for 1st degree assault involving a weapon was confirmed. Smith was arrested and taken to the Pettis County jail pending a $100,000 bond.

Two suspects arrested during a traffic stop Monday afternoon

At 2:42 Monday afternoon Sedalia Police stopped a vehicle at East Pettis and Washington Ave. with a driver with a suspended license. Upon contact with the driver 19-year-old Francis Demonta of Sedalia he was found to be suspended. A search of the vehicle also revealed a bag of marijuana. Demonta was arrested and transported to the Pettis County jail pending a $1067 bond for driving while suspended and possession of marijuana. A passenger in the vehicle 25-year-old Michael Miller of Sedalia was found to have active warrants out of Pettis County with bonds totaling $28,500. At the time of the police report Miller was being held in the Pettis County Jail pending those bonds plus a charge for possession of marijuana.

41-year-old woman arrested on a failure to appear warrant Saturday evening

Around 5pm Saturday evening Sedalia Police responded to a residence in the 1600 block of East Broadway for a warrant check. Upon arrival contact was made with the suspect, 41-year-old Tammy Vansteenburgh of the residence. Following confirmation of the warrant Vansteenburgh was arrested and taken to the Pettis County jail pending a $5000 bond for failure to appear on a forgery charge.

Shoplifter arrested at a local business Sunday evening

Just before 5:30 Sunday evening Sedalia Police responded to Sally’s Beauty Supply at 3400 West Broadway on a shoplifter at the business. Upon arrival the suspect ran from the officers, and then continued to fight with officers. After securing the suspect officers reportedly located a $64 lighted mirror, and a $10 mirror in her purse. 35-year-old Kelly Rene Deignan of Sedalia was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail pending formal charges of shoplifting, and resisting arrest.

Walmart reports a shoplifter at 12:50 Sunday afternoon

At 12:50 Sunday afternoon Sedalia police were called to the Walmart store on a shoplifter. 29-year-old Jennifer Gasson of Sedalia was arrested at the scene and transported to the Pettis County jail pending a $533.50 bond.

48-year-old Sedalia man arrested on warrants Monday afternoon

Around 2:30 Monday afternoon Sedalia Police stopped a vehicle at Main and Missouri for failure to yield the right of way to another vehicle. A check on the driver 48-year-old Lewis Galloway of Sedalia revealed he was suspended, and had two active warrants out of Booneville.  At the time of the police report he was in the Pettis County jail pending a $600 bond.
Sedalia Children’s House reports a runaway

According to a Sedalia Police report a local children’s house reported a runaway 15-year-old child. The report states the child has runaway before. There was no other information in the police report.

Thief targets his wife’s clothes in an overnight break in according to a complainant

At 2:28 Monday afternoon Sedalia Police investigated a theft complaint in the 1800 block of South Warrant. According to the complainant thieves entered his residence and stole his wife’s clothes and some court documents while he was at work.

Vandals damage property cars and Laundromat equipment

Bud’s Laundromat at 301 South Engineer reported vandals had damaged machines in his business. There were no suspects at news time.

A victim in the 700 block of East 13th reported the driver’s side window of his vehicle was broken out.

Vandals also broke the driver’s side window Sunday night in the 1800 block of South Kentucky.

Gas Drive Offs reported at two-Casey’s Stores

Sunday afternoon the Casey’s Store at 716 West 16th reported a gas drive off of $46.67. Monday evening the Casey’s at 3050 South Limit reported a $68 gas drive off. There were no suspects at news time.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Accident Reports
At 12:45pm Monday afternoon the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a one-vehicle accident on Missouri 224 a tenth of a mile before Country Farm Road in Lafayette County. The accident reportedly occurred as the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer driven by26-year-old Jonathan Wilson of Lexington ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected and ran off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle then struck a ditch, and overturned coming to rest on the passenger’s side. A passenger identified as 16-year Kyla Bleibaum also of Lexington was not wearing a seat belt, and suffered moderate injuries in the crash, and was taken to Centerpoint Hospital by Wellington EMS for treatment.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report 23-year-old Jacob Hill of Columbia received minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident, on US 65 Highway just South of Route “H” in Pettis County around 11:30am Monday morning. The accident happened according to the report as Hill, the driver of a 2004 Ford Escape braked and swerved to avoid a vehicle that was slowing to turn into a private driveway. The Hill vehicle slid out of control, and off of the roadway where it struck a ditch and overturned. Hill was taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center by Pettis County Ambulance for treatment.

Around 10:50pm Sunday night the Missouri State Highway patrol reported a two vehicle accident on Northbound Missouri 7 just after Bridge “A5357” in Henry County. The crash occurred according to the report as a 2006 Ford driven by 35-year-old Carey Mills of Clinton struck a disabled 1993 Jeep in the roadway. Mills suffered minor injuries and was transported to Golden Valley Hospital by EMS for treatment.

At 12:41pm Monday afternoon the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported an injury accident on Missouri Highway 13 just South of Missouri Highway 20 in Lafayette County. The accident reportedly happened when the driver of a 2014 Toyota, 45-year-old Charles Harkins of Excelsior Springs was travelling behind a 2010 Chrysler driven by 31-year-old Lynnellen King of Holden. The accident report states Harkins became distracted and struck the rear of the Lynnellen vehicle. A passenger in the struck vehicle, 51-year-old Rhonda Thornton of Holden was taken to Lafayette Regional Medical Center by Higginsville EMS for treatment of minor injuries.
