UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Staff Sargent Chad Blackwell. Detective Ken Landes of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department told KSIS in a telephone interview that the Johnson County Coroner has ruled the death a suicide.

Authorities have launched an investigation after an airman based at Whiteman Air Force Base was found dead on Sunday (Feb. 25) in his home in Leeton, Mo.

According to the Associated Press, the victim’s identity and cause of death have not been released yet, but Whiteman spokeswoman Jennifer Green said in a release on Monday that the victim was a member of the 509th Maintenance Group.
