Alvin A. “Smitty” Smith, Jr., 82, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, April 25,
2013 at Bothwell Regional Health Center. He was born on June 9, 1930 in Sufferin, NY, a son of Alvin A. and Dorothy Travis Smith Sr.  On December 19, 1980, in Sedalia he was united in marriage to Connie J. Morris, who survives of the home.

He loved going square dancing with his wife and enjoyed going to the lake, fishing, camping and being in the outdoors in the woods. Smitty loved animals, especially his dog Angel Hope and his two cats. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He worked at Sedalia Fruit as a truck driver and a custodian at Bothwell Regional Health Center for 22 years retiring in 2001. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force.Besides his wife he survived by three children, Teresa Varner (Joseph) of Winter Haven, FL, Jennifer Ahearn (Timothy) of Douglasville, GA, and Jack Shull (Mindy) of La Monte; six grandchildren Dustin, Corey, Chase, Kelly, Austin, and Alexa; three brothers, Eugene Smith of New York, Edward Smith of North Carolina, and Donnie Smith of California.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Garber; a
granddaughter, Christina Garber and a sister, Dink Shuart. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m Monday, April 29, 2013, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, with Pastor Jim Downing, Jr. officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or to the Mid-Missouri Human Society in care of the funeral chapel.
