Area crime reports 5-23-18

Sedalia Police arrested 39-year-old Nik Pokitko of Sedalia at 2:17 a.m. after SPD received numerous intoxicated 911 calls from him. Pokitko was located in the 800 block of Brentwood Avenue and found to be intoxicated and uncooperative. He was taken to the Pettis County Jail on a 12-hour protective custody hold.


 

On Tuesday, a woman reported that someone covered her vehicle in maple syrup on May 11 in the 3400 block of W. Broadway. The report indicated that she had issues with her car ever since and finally took it to a mechanic, who said maple syrup was discovered in the gas tank and that the engine would have to be replaced.


 

On Tuesday morning, Sedalia Police arrested 32-year-old Joshua Robert Oliver of Sedalia at the Probation and Parole office, 205 Thompson Road, on a Wright County warrant. Oliver was taken into custody and transported to the Pettis County Jail.


 

On Tuesday morning, Sedalia Police took a vehicle theft report from Renee Powell, who stated she left her 2015 Hyundai Sonata in a parking lot at 1400 S. Limit on Friday and when she returned Monday, the vehicle was missing. Powell later called police to report she found her vehicle, which she had apparently parked somewhere else.


 

On Tuesday afternoon, Samuel Wise reported a hit-and-run that occurred at Broadway and Moniteau. According to the report, the suspect vehicle was a gold passenger vehicle, which left the area south on Kentucky. The victim's vehicle had extensive damage.


 

On Wednesday at 1:29 a.m. at 1611 S. Limit, Sedalia Police arrested 36-year-old Steven Wayne Bailey of Sedalia after conducting a traffic stop at McDonald's. Bailey was wanted on a Benton County warrant. He was taken to the Pettis County Jail on a $50 bond.


 

Sedalia Police arrested 35-year-old Kristain Jeanette Ford of Sedalia after conducting a warrant check in the 1000 block of W. 3rd at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Ford was wanted on a Municipal warrant on a traffic charge. She was taken to the Pettis County Jail on a $70 cash bond, with a June 6 court date.


 

Sedalai Police arrested 25-year-old Jose Alberto Cortes-Polito of Sedalia after conducting a traffic stop on an Oldmobile van for no valid license. A computer check revealed he was wanted on a Pettis County warrant for a conservation violation. Corest-Polito was taken to the Pettis County Jail on a $150 cash bond, with his court date TBA.


 

Sedalia Police arrested 38-year-old Amanda Sue Higginbotham of Sedalia on a felony warrant in the 1700 block of E. 4th at 10:26 p.m. Tuesday after officers responded to a call on an unattended fire pit that was still smoldering. Higginbotham was taken into custody and transported to the Pettis County Jail on a $10,000 bond.


 

On Tuesday, a man reported to police that his father's truck sustained a broken rear window while parked in the street overnight in the 1100 block of W. 6th. The suspect apparently did not gain access to the interior of the truck, according to the report.


 

The Pettis County Sheriff's Department took a property damage report on Tuesday night after 11 p.m. reference a vehicle driving through the area, damaging mail boxes. A check of the area revealed that several mail boxes were damaged.


 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 24-year-old Brandon L. Ede of Sedalia at 11:22 p.m. Friday, May 19 in Pettis County. He was charged with DWI, Displaying an Auxiliary Lamp Not White, No Seat Belt and No Insurance. Ede was taken to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released.


 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 27-year-old Leopoldo Rubio Leon
of Sedalia at 1:10 a.m. Sunday in Pettis County. Leon was charged with DWI, No Valid Operator's License, No Insurance and No Seat Belt. He was taken to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released.
