Sedalia Holds Homecoming for Missouri National Guard’s 35th Combat Aviation Brigade [PHOTOS]

Families, friends and supporters gathered at the Mathewson Exhibition Center this morning as 120 soldiers of the 35th Combat Aviation Brigade of the Missouri National Guard returned from Kuwait. Governor Jay Nixon welcomed back the soldiers on behalf of Missouri and was proud of their efforts. Nixon said he appreciates the honor, courage, duty, a love of country that these men and women displayed and believes families and friends should be proud of their service.

Common Core Meeting Coming to Warrensburg

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Regional meeting is coming to Warrensburg Middle School at 640 E. Gay Street in Warrensburg on Thursday, May 2. The meeting will discuss the history of the Common Core Movement, Missouri's learning standards, Common Core's goals and what it does and does not require of students and teachers.

Police Line

Two Arrests Made After Sedalia STING Unit Conducts Search on South Sneed

Last night (April 30), the Sedalia Police Department STING unit along with Sedalia Police and the Pettis County Sheriff's Department served a search warrant at 1828 South Sneed. The STING Unit found methamphetamine, marijuana, drug packaging supplies and drug paraphernalia.

Old Wood’s Location on Broadway Torn Down [SLIDESHOW]

The old Wood's Store next to the Smith-Cotton Jr. High was recently sold. CVS Pharmacy is said to be moving in to that location, but decided to start from scratch. This week, Poort Excavating fenced off the location over the weekend and tore down the structure today (April 30).  You can see photos of the demolition in this slideshow provided by Kevin Walker.

Homecoming Ceremony Organized as National Guard Soldiers Return to Sedalia

One hundred and twenty soldiers from the Missouri National Guard and the 35th Combat Aviation Brigade will be returning to Sedalia tomorrow morning (May 1) at 10:30 a.m. after being deployed and stationed in Kuwait as Task Force Santa Fe since May 8, 2012.  A 35th CAB Welcome Home Ceremony will take place at the Missouri State Fair's Mathewson Exhibition Center in Sedalia at 10:30 a.m. Friends and family are welcome to attend the ceremony.

What Is Your Favorite Chinese Restaurant in Sedalia? [POLL]

Sedalia is know to have its fair share of Chinese restaurants. Each of them have there own unique styles. Some of the Chinese restaurants are known for their buffets, some are known for their hibachi style and others are known for sushi. One of my favorite buffets closed down officially a week or two ago, and Joyous Chinese Buffet put up a sign over the weekend saying that they are moving into Asia Hibachi at 1975 West Broadway.

Would You Support a Public Smoking Ban in Sedalia? [POLL]

The Sedalia City Council is looking at drafting an ordinance that would ban smoking in public places.  There are already numerous cities that have drafted similar ordinances that ban smoking in public places, including restaurants and bars across our country and in Missouri. Sedalia already has banned smoking at State Fair Community College and Bothwell Regional Health Center and its affiliates, city owned property also has restrictions that have been put in place.  Many businesses have made the decision on their own to prohibit smoking inside the restaurant or business.
