The thunderous sounds of rumbling motorcycles came rolling into Sedalia at the State Fair's Campgrounds for Labor Day Weekend. There was a lot of fun to be had at the Campgrounds. They had several vendors selling motorcycle products, clothing and some great food. There were live bands playing in the evening for the ending of the days' events.
Today (Aug. 29), emergency personnel in Sedalia helped lay to rest one of their own. Kenny M. Stone passed away in the line of duty on Aug. 23, 2013. Kenny served our community as a paramedic. He most recently worked for APSI in Sedalia, but had spent a career serving at the Sni-Valley Volunteer Fire Department where he was assistant chief, as well as Oak Grove EMS and Lifeguard Ambulance. Today, EMS and fire departments from the area came to help give Kenny a hero's sendoff.
Historic Downtown Sedalia was the backdrop once again for the 2013 Sedalia Downtown Criterium Bike Race. The races started around 4 p.m. on Saturday (Aug. 24), starting with the first of five men's races. They also held two women's races and one junior race. The Final Men's Race started at 9 p.m.
Tonight (Aug. 17) will be one of the craziest nights of Bull Riding. It is The Extreme Bull Riding Competition at The State Fair Arena in the southwest part of the Fairgrounds over by the Sheep Pavilion and FFA Building at 7 p.m. Here are some photos of the guys from their Meet and Greet at Gene's Boots and Hats. They'll be wrestling with some of the bulls tonight. Go out and enjoy this exciting event. These young men were the nicest of people you could meet.
I was privileged to be able to spend the afternoon with Tyler Farr and his family before his show at The Missouri State Fair. Tyler's dad, Gary Farr, hosted a party at Patricia's for family, friends and guests. It was quite an evening.
On Monday night at the Missouri State Fair (Aug. 12), I was a very lucky young man. I was able to check another Bucket List item off the list: going up in a hot air balloon. I met up with Jim Wolters from Jefferson City, Mo. I had introduced myself to him and asked if there was any chance I could go up with him in his hot air balloon, and he agreed.
While at the fair this weekend, I was going around asking cowgirls and cowboys to show off their styling boots, and boy did they ever so proudly show them off. I really hope you enjoy this series of "Booty Call" at The Missouri State Fairgrounds.
It was a lovely evening for the Starship and Foreigner Concert at The Pepsi Grandstand Show on Friday night (Aug. 9). Prior to the show there, was a Meet and Greet with Foreigner. They were very generous with their fans getting photographs and signing autographs. They performed some of their greatest hits. During Foreigner's song, "I Want to Know What Love Is," they brought the Green Ridge High School Choir on stage to sing along with them. What a wonderful experience that had to be for them. The choir helped sell Foreigner's CDs at the show, and a portion of the proceeds went to the choir.
