Authorities are investigating after a person was found dead near a central Missouri vacation home.

The Camden County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that preliminary autopsy results suggest the death was homicide. The cause of death wasn't immediately release.

KYTV reported that that the owner of the vacation home contacted police last week because the home's caretaker was unreachable. Detectives hadn't said whether the body belonged to the missing person. The home is located southeast of the unincorporated community of Macks Creeks and near the Niangua River.

The release said the medical examiner is working to positively identify the victim.

Sheriff Dwight Franklin has requested the assistance of the Lake Area Major Case Squad.
