A weekend shooting incident in Tipton has left a 19-year-old man dead.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says officers responded to a report of a gunshot wound at a Tipton address at approximately 11:20 p.m. on Saturday. Upon arrival, police discovered the body of 19-year-old Robert Ashbaugh.

The Patrol says that a preliminary investigation indicates Ashbaugh was shot by an acquaintance during "horseplay involving a firearm." No other people were injured at the scene, and no arrests were made.

The investigation is ongoing.

On May 28, 2016, at the request of Tipton Police Chief Edward Wiecken, members of the Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control, Troop F, began conducting an investigation into the death of Robert Ashbaugh, 19 of Tipton, Missouri.

On Saturday evening, May 28, 2016, at approximately 11:20 p.m. officers responded to 420 Railroad Avenue, in Tipton, Missouri, in reference to a person suffering a gunshot wound. Officers of the Tipton Police Department arrived at the residence minutes after receiving the call and it was determined Mr. Ashbaugh was deceased.

Preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Ashbaugh was shot by an acquaintance during horseplay involving a firearm. Mr. Ashbaugh was transported to the University of Missouri Hospital, in Columbia, Missouri, at the request of the Moniteau County Corner pending an autopsy.

No other people were injured in the shooting and no arrests were made at the scene.  This investigation is continuing by the Division of Drug and Crime Control.
