Jay Cutler threw two touchdown passes to Martellus Bennett, and the Chicago Bears held on to beat the New York Jets, 27-19, on Monday night in northern New Jersey. The Jets had an opportunity to tie the game by scoring a touchdown and a two-point conversion on their final possession, but the Chicago defense held them without points inside the red zone with less 1:04 to play.

Nick Folk kicked four field goals on the game for New York (1-2), which could not cross the goal line on its final drive. Jets’ quarterback Geno Smith threw for 316 yards and a score, but his last pass of the game was caught out of the back of the end zone by receiver Jeremy Kerley. Chicago (2-1) took over on downs and ran out the clock to secure the win.

The Bears led 17-13 at halftime after capitalizing on Jets’ mistakes early in the messy game. Chicago’s Ryan Mundy scored the first points of the contest on a 45-yard interception return on the second play from scrimmage. The pick-six was one of three New York turnovers.

The Bears’ Alshon Jeffery led all receivers with eight catches for 105 yards. The Jets’ defense sacked Cutler four times and limited Chicago to 257 yards of offense, including just 60 yards rushing, but the Bears did enough to get the victory.
