The Benton County Sheriff's Office is reminding area residents of a phone scam in which the callers claim to be from Apple, Inc.

According to a press release from the Benton County Sheriff's Department, a woman reported a scam that affected her computer, in which 'professional sounding people' stated they were calling from Apple Inc, armed with alot of her information, convinced her to allow them access to her computer to block identified hacking.

However, after gaining access to the computer, the scam callers stole her personal information, credit card numbers, and banking info.

Authorities are reminding everyone, if there is doubt about the legitimacy of a caller, hang up and call the agency they claim to be, using the publicly-listed number. Report scam calls to local enforcement.
