Bob Joe Hartley, 81, of Sedalia, died April 16, 2013. He was born in Sedalia on February 24, 1932, the son of John and Christina (Dampf) Hartley. Bob and Doris Jean Pummill were united in marriage on September 27, 1951. Doris survives of the home.

Bob worked for the Missouri-Pacific Shops after high school until he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served from September, 1952 until August, 1954. Upon his discharge he began working for Home Building Corp. as a painter. Bob then became a mail carrier for the Post Office, where he worked for over 31 years. Bob was a member of Christ and Trinity Lutheran Church. He held numerous positions within the church and sang in the choir for over 50 years. He and Doris delivered many meals for Meals on Wheels and Bob was an adult leader with the Boy Scouts. Bob also was an avid gardener and he, Doris and Vera Hibbard enjoyed jigsaw puzzles.

Bob was always willing to offer assistance to others and he set an excellent example for his family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife, Doris; 2 sons, Robert Hartley and his wife, Alicia and Don Hartley; 4 grandchildren, Curtis, Heather, Larissa and Sarah Hartley and 4 great grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Funeral services will be at 10:30AM, Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Christ and Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Kim Knowle-Zeller officiating. Pallbearers will be Greg Lang, Rusty Ream, Ray Ditzfield, Randy Downum, Leonard Butler and Paul Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Henry Marquez, Vera Hibbard, Jim Meyer, Glen Ewing, Mary Kern, Jason O'Hare and the Christ and Trinity Lutheran Church Choir. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30PM, Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home.

Bob's family suggests memorial contributions to Christ and Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
