Boil Water Advisory Issued for Elm Hills Subdivision

A Boil Water Advisory has been issued for Elm Hills Subdivision near Sedalia.

A press release from Elm Hills Utility Operating Company, Inc. says due to low water pressure, the subdivision will be on a boil water advisory.

The press release indicates that while improvements were being made to the Missouri Utilities (Elm Hills) well and tank system, the Elm Hills Subdivision has been supplied by city water.

On Friday, a main break in the Sedalia City Water Supply lead to low pressure in the system. Work has been completed on the well and tank system and Elm Hills says they were already scheduled to switch over to well water later Friday, so pressure will be restored quickly.

The boil water advisory will remain in effect until water sample results indicate that no contamination is present.

Elm Hills is posting signs in the subdivision, updating their website, emailing customers, and notifying local media of the Boil Water Advisory.

Elm Hills says anyone served by the affected water system should observe the following precautions:

- Boil water vigorously for three minutes prior to use for cooking or drinking. 

- Disinfect food contact surfaces (dishes) by immersing them for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water. 

- Dispose of ice cubes and remake with water that has been boiled 

- Continue boiling all water that is to be used for cooking or drinking until the Boil Water Advisory has been lifted. 

- Water used for bathing does not need to be boiled. 

- Let water cool sufficiently before drinking (approx. 110 degrees F).
