The Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri is hoping area residents will again “glow their support” this week during the second annual 5K Glow Run/Walk, presented by Starline.

The run will be held on the State Fair Community College campus this Friday, June 12. Pre-race ceremonies, including a special flashmob, will begin at 8:30 p.m. with the race starting at 8:45 p.m. New this year, a portion of the event proceeds will be matched by SFCC to provide a scholarship for the 2016 Youth of the Year teen winner.

“The race was designed with all running abilities in mind,” said Communications Coordinator Emily Jarrett. “If you’re a serious runner and want to compete you can, but if you’re just wanting a fun run to do with family or friends, this race is great for that too.”

Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in all age categories: 55 and up, 40 to 54, 30 to 39, 20 to 29, and under 19. For children who are too young to compete, the Club will offer a special children’s area to give parents a place to drop their child off before the race for glow-in-the-dark fun.

“Last year was our most successful run yet and we’re hoping to get an even bigger turnout this year,” Jarrett said. “There’s still time to sign up for the race and we’ll take registrations up to 8 p.m. on race day.”
