Jack’s Mid-Missouri Memories: Pop’s Workshop and His Ragged Old Cat

Well, it's happened again! There is a ragged old cat hanging around my house that someone has probably dropped off thinking that it's the place for cats. It is not a pretty cat, and it looks as if it had lost a few fights along the way. It is a skittish cat, and runs at the sight of me.  The thing is that it reminds me of a cat my father-in-law had, so I have started to leave extra food in my other cats bowl for it. I guess I have a soft spot for ragged old cats thanks to the one my father-in -law who had one in his work shop. It made me think that everyone needs one in their shop. When the old yellow cat showed up, it reminded me of this memory, and if you too are someone who likes ragged old cats, maybe you will like it.

Jack’s Mid-Missouri Memories: Fair Again

Some people wonder where I get ideas for my "Mid-Missouri memories." One of those sources is in town right now, and like most people in Sedalia, there are a lot of memories through those gates of the Missouri State Fairgrounds. As someone who grew up in Sedalia, it would be strange if I didn’t have a lot of merry-go-round and roller coaster memories from that yearly event. The main memories I have however, have nothing to do with fair rides.

100-Year-Old WWII Veteran Finally Gets His Free Haircut from Dick’s Barber Shop [PHOTOS]

Brian Dick of Dick's Barber Shop in historic Downtown Sedalia had to pay up a bet up to World War II veteran Walter "Mac" McBride. Mac has been going to Dick's Barber Shop for years, and when Brian's dad Frank Dick retired, he told Brian that he never once got a free haircut from Frank. This was about four years ago, and Mac asked Brian when he would give him one. Brian told Mac when he turns 100 years old, he would give him a free haircut.

Jack’s Mid-Missouri Memories: Little Surprises

Rummaging through my files the other day, I ran across a memory that I wrote around 11 years ago when my granddaughter Shelbi, the daughter of my oldest son Darren and his wife Terrinda, was the only little one for my wife and I to spoil

Jack’s Mid-Missouri Memories: Special Anniversaries

July has two very important anniversaries for me this year. One anniversary July 29,  marks 53 years that I have been married, and the other on July 10 is for eight years behind this KSIS microphone. After 53 years of marriage, I think I am starting to get the hang of that one. As for the radio, you the listener are my ultimate judge, but if you have enjoyed hearing and reading my mid-Missouri Memories these eight years half as much as I have enjoyed writing and bringing them to you on the radio both here on KSIS and my prior years with KDRO, then I am a happy man.
