Superstorm Sandy has caused a lot of damage. People have died, homes have been destroyed, businesses have been ruined. Americans across the country are reaching out by donating money, time, food, and clothing, but they're also reaching out with message of hope in the blog NOLA To New York.

As predicted, Hurricane Sandy created one crazy night. Millions without power, explosions, flooding and at least 18 people dead. October 29, 2012 The nominees for the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri’s 2013 Pink Flamingo Award have been revealed. The Pink Flamingo Award, which has been honoring individuals in West Central Missouri for their community giving, philanthropic spirit, kindness, generosity, character and leadership for the past six years, has become a part and tradition of the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri’s annual fundraising auction, 'An Evening of Heart and Hope.'
As usual, a good time was had by all at the first Halloween celebration at Dukes & Boots. Over $500 in cash and prizes was awarded to participants in the costume contest. Part two is Halloween night with a $500 cash to the best costume. Here are some pics. Comment on them and share them!
October 29, 2012 It's time for another installment of On the Road With Doug, only this time I didn't go very far. Fundraisers happen all the time for local churches. Some really step out of the box or fill a niche that when you mention it, you instantly think of that church. That certainly applies to the Immanuel United Church of Christ, at 418 West 4th Street, who had their 13th Annual German Dinner on Saturday (October 27).
It takes a lot to upstage the President of the United States in a photograph, but these grade school kids have done it. We're not the only ones who think so. Even the president himself (or at least his Twitter account) labeled this the "picture of the day." We're pretty sure it's not because of the kid who's trying to eat his shirt. Or the way the president isn't looking at the camera either. Can you guess why?
