Charles Jr. Hammond, 52, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at University Hospital in Columbia.

He was born August 19, 1960, in Sedalia, son of Charles and Dorothy Vansell Garrett. On April 16, 2011, in Sedalia, he married Patricia Patrick, who survives of the home.

Chuck was a custodian for the Sedalia School District and worked at Horace Mann School. He loved working with the kids. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing softball. He was a Raiders fan and Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan. His greatest love was his family and his dog, Mattie. He was a member of Ozark Tabernacle.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his parents, of Sedalia; a son, Cody Hammond (Liz), of Springfield; five step-children: Mike Johnson (Tracy), of Sedalia, Mark Johnson (Tonya), of La Monte, Kristi Wright (Brandon), of Sweet Springs, Katie, of Sedalia, and Sarah, of Springfield; a daughter he thought of as his own, Jessica Stanley; a God-daughter, Abigayle Lindsey; six grandchildren; five siblings: Carl Hammond (Sue), of Wheatland, Frances Thompson (Donald), of Sedalia, Robert Hammond (Margaret), of Sedalia, Brenda Kinyon (John), of Sedalia, and Angie Garrett (Lloyd), of Grandview; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Michael Hammond and Randall Garrett; and his grandparents.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Corbett Martin officiating.

Casket bearers will be: Chris Wasson, Christopher Wasson, Michael Bowman, Brandon Wright, Mike Wiemann, Brian Hyde, Zachary Bowman and Kap Persinger.

Burial will be in Union-Williams Cemetery in Cole Camp.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Heckart Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Charles Hammond Memorial Fund. Condolences may be offered at www.heckartfuneralhome.com.
