A Sedalia Police officer was recently awarded the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) - Officer of the Year Award for the state of Missouri.

An announcement on the Sedalia Police Department's Facebook page says that officer Mark Cherry was presented the award on March 20.

Sedalia Police say that Cherry has been "instrumental in creating the training base for the West Central Missouri CIT training model." Cherry has trained many local officers, as well as officers from surrounding agencies.

For the award, Sedalia Police describe Cherry as a "strong advocate for people in crisis and dedicated to helping them receive treatment to resolve their issue."
