The Sedalia City Council met in the council chambers of City Hall for a work session Monday night (April 29). There were three items on the agenda, but the one that drew the capacity crowd to the chamber was the proposal that would make Sedalia a smoke-free city.

City Attorney Ann Gardner gave a Powerpoint presentation of the ordinance that is close to one the City of Lee’s Summit has at this time. If enacted, the ordinance will affect virtually all business places within the city limits, including bars, restaurants and private clubs.

There were both opponents and proponents who came to the microphone to speak to the council about their views on the subject. The council had already stipulated that no vote would be taken at the meeting. At the end of the work session the council decided to hold another work session on the smoke free ordinance on the May 13.

KSIS will be at the meeting and will bring you an update on the proposal to make Sedalia a smoke free community. Take our poll below and let us know if you would support the ordinance.
