Submissions are open for the 2018 City of Sedalia Christmas Light Contest.

The 38th annual outdoor lighting contest is hosted by Xi Beta Upsilon, along with the assistance of Mayor John Kehde and the City Council.

There are two different categories which include residential and commercial.

The same rules and prizes apply to both categories.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The City of Sedalia says the 1st place prize is $100. Second place prize is $50 and Third Place wins $25.

The deadline to register is Monday, December 10 at noon. Judging will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

The City says if you have not won a cash prize in the last three years, you may enter by submitting an application at the mayor's office, located at 200 S. Osage Ave. The residential and commercial applications are available at cityofsedalia.com.

The judging is being done on a point basis as follows:

Lighting - 10 points

Eye Appeal - 10 points

Originality - 10 points

Overall Appeal - 10 points

The City noted that complete displays must remain in place throughout the Christmas holiday season. City employees are not eligible to participate.
