On Saturday morning (May 4) at 9:41 a.m., Clinton Police Officers were dispatched to 604 E. Lincoln St. in reference to a subject that was not breathing. Upon arrival, officers discovered 12-year-old Destiny Spitler of the home, who was not breathing and appeared to have no pulse. Officers performed CPR on the scene until an ambulance transported her to the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital Emergency Room where she was pronounced dead by Henry County Coroner Dain Sisk.

Clinton Police Detectives were on the scene and conducted a death investigation. Preliminary investigation points to a possible accidental drug overdose. An autopsy was conducted and more will be known about the cause of death when the results of the examination are known.

The Clinton Police Department is investigating this incident in cooperation with the Henry County Coroner and the Missouri Division of Family Services. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Vansant Mills Funeral Home of Clinton.
