The Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri will no longer offer SPARK, a reading intensive program held at its Cole Camp Site, due to budgetary reasons.
SPARK was previously funded through grants from Boys & Girls Clubs of America. These grants are no longer available and the Club does not have funds to keep the project going. The Cole Camp Site will still offer its regular after school programs to all children in the area, focusing on Academic Success, Character and Leadership Development and Healthy Lifestyles.

“For the last several years SPARK has provided extra time during the school day for below grade level readers to catch up to their peers,” said Executive Director Jessica Pyle. “While we will no longer have this specific program, we will still continue to offer engaging educational programs during after school time at the Club.”

Pyle also thanked SPARK Program Manager Cheryl Petersen and SPARK tutors for their dedicated work with local students.

“We’re thankful that this program was able to make a difference in the lives of those children who needed it,” she said.
