Cole Camp Man Arrested Thursday in a Child Abuse Case

According to a press release from the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office On Thursday (May 29, 2014) Pettis County Deputies responded to a residence in the 2900 block of Robin Lane, on a child who was not responsive. The seventeen-month-old female child was taken to the University Hospital in Columbia by air ambulance. At the time of the press release the injuries were being classified as consistent with shaking.

Following an investigation Deputies arrested 22-year-old Derek A. Steen of Cole Camp for the abuse of a child. The Pettis County Prosecutor’s Office later charged Steen with one-count of abuse of a child (Serious Emotional or Physical Injury) a Class A felony, with a bond set at $250,000.00. The press release stated the child is still being treated at the University Hospital.
