The Creative Writing group from the Sedalia Senior Center held the award ceremony for their annual Creative Writing contest on Monday, October 17, 2016 at the Senior Center.

Winning entries were announced by Fayrene Mayes and certificates of award were presented by Bob Cross.

In the category of Memoir, the winners were as follows:

Third place - “Hens a Peckin’” by Anna Lee Bail Second place - “A Leap of Doggie Faith” by Lela Merrell-Savage First place - “Roberta’s Underpants” by Pat Knight

In the category of News Report, the winners were as follows:

Third place - “News Flash” by Lela Merrell-Savage Second place “Flash News” by Anna Lee Bail First place - “Yokal Sedalia Resident Injured” by Pat Knight

In the category of Short Story, the winners were as follows:
Second place - “This is my Story” by Anna Lee Bail First place - “Twin Granddaughters” by Lela Merrell-Savage

In the category of Flash Fiction 100 words or less, the winner was
“Life of a Weatherman” by Lela Merrell-Savage

In the category of Rhymed Poetry, the winners were as follows:
Second place - “Pimp y Ride” by Marianne Hunter First place - “Good News” by Anna Lee Bail

In the category of Unrhymed Poetry, the winners were as follows:
Honorable Mention - “Welcome to Our Family” by Martha Weller Third place - “Treasure Chest” by Martha Weller Second place - “Serenity” by Marianne Hunter First place - “A Chaotic World” by Martha Weller

In the category of Haiku, the winner was
“Meandering Stream” by Marianne Hunter
