Darrell Duane VanBaale, 82, of Sedalia, passed away, Sunday, September 23, 2012 at his home.  He was born on June 4, 1930, in Monroe, IA, a son of John and Gladys (Oldham) VanBaale.

On March 27, 1952 in Reasnor, IA, he was united in marriage to Doris Spain, who survives of the home.   He was a very talented woodworker and enjoyed building big furniture. Darrell loved history and was an avid traveler.  He traveled to 48 states, enjoying their history and visiting museums.  He also enjoyed watching S-C football and the KC Chiefs.  After retirement in 1995, he worked at The MO State Fairgrounds for five years and then for Sutherlands.  He enjoyed spending the winters in South Texas.  Darrell was a member of Good Sam’s Club and Wesley United Methodist Church, Sedalia.   Besides his wife, he is survived by two children, Diane Connor and her husband Dennis of La Monte and Dennis VanBaale and his wife Neala of Sedalia; one grandson, Adam VanBaale of Sedalia; one sister, Bessie McKeag and her husband Ed of Newton, IA and one brother, Wendell VanBaale of Newton, IA.   Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nathella McCarter and Anna Mae Wells and one brother, Hoarce VanBaale.   Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Wesley United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rick Adams officiating.   The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.   Honorary bearers will be Charlie Bell, Charlie Merk, Richard Davidson and Leroy Pummill.   Memorial contributions are suggested to Wesley United Methodist Church in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
