Miss Destiny Reed from Hannibal was named the 2015 Missouri State Fair Queen in a ceremony held yesterday (Aug. 14). Miss Reed received the highest score of 55 contestants vying for the title in the two-day competition held in the Mathewson Exhibition Center. Miss Reed will reign over the remaining State Fair events and be an ambassador for the State Fair and Missouri agriculture throughout the coming year.

Miss Reed is 19 years old and studies English at Truman State University. As Queen, she will receive a $1,500 scholarship to continue her education. Destiny entered as Miss Marion County, and is the daughter of Lance and Tamara Reed.

“As an education major, I am really excited about the opportunity to advocate for agricultural education as the 2015 Missouri State Fair Queen,” Miss Reed said.

Miss Reed currently serves on the executive board for the Student Missouri State Teacher’s Association at Truman as well as the leadership team for Campus Christian Fellowship. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, fishing and scrapbooking.

Participants in the queen contest were judged in multiple areas including interview, speech, talent and evening gown.

Miss Gentry County Beef Queen Maria Washburn received first runner-up and a $500 scholarship. Second runner-up went to Miss Lincoln County Fun Show McKenna Wilmes, who will receive a $250 scholarship. The third runner-up honor went to Miss Jessica Fowler, the Missouri Beef Queen, who will receive a $200 scholarship, and the fourth runner-up honor went to Miss Missouri Outdoors Sierra Burch, who will receive a $100 scholarship.

Recognition certificates went to contestants ranking highest in each of the four competitive categories: Miss Reed received top ranking in Interview; Miss Washburn received top ranking in Evening Gown and top ranking in Speech; and Miss Gasconade County Emily Hendrix received top ranking in Talent.
