Some inmates at a mid-Missouri correctional institution refused to go back to their housing units overnight Wednesday before the situation was brought under control.

Missouri Department of Corrections spokeswoman Karen Pojmann says no one was injured during the disturbance at the Tipton Correctional Center.

She says between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Wednesday some inmates refused to return to their housing units after recreation time. Disturbances were reported in three housing units but Pojmann says significant damage such as broken windows was found in only one of the units.

The situation was under control around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

Pojmann could not estimate how many inmates were involved.

She says inmates apparently were upset over recent stricter enforcement of some rules, such as how many inmates can congregate in one place.
