Dorothy Mae Anderson, 96

Dorothy Mae Anderson, 96, formerly of Sedalia, MO, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Cassville.

She was born September 22, 1919, in Sedalia, a daughter of Fred Oscar and Julia Edith Chedell Decker.

On September 12, 1943, at Broadway Presbyterian Church in Sedalia, she was married to Lilburn Lee Anderson. They were married for 52 years when he passed away on March 24, 1996.

Dorothy was a 1936 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School and attended Central Business College in Sedalia.  She did secretarial and bookkeeping work at Acme Broom Company and Town and Country Shoe Company.  She was employed in the principal’s office at Smith-Cotton High School for 15 years before retiring in May of 1985.

She was an active worker and officer in the PTA, a member of the Non Teacher Retirement System, and served as telephone chairman for AARP.

Dorothy was a lifelong member of Broadway Presbyterian Church and was baptized April 5, 1925. She was received into membership by profession of faith on April 16, 1933.  She belonged to the Presbyterian Women’s Association, the Odell Circle and the Plus Club.  She enjoyed her family, flowers, gardening and photography.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Cowherd and husband Larry, of Cassville, MO; a son Larry Anderson and wife Sherry, of Prosper, TX. Also surviving are one granddaughter, Kristina Anderson of Dallas, TX and one grandson, Shane Cowherd of Cassville, Mo. She had six great grandchildren: Bailey Cowherd, Brooke Cowherd, Austin Cowherd, Dusty Cowherd, all of Cassville, Montana Cress of Joplin and Hunter Cress of Pittsburg, KS.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Oscar Lemuel Decker; and two sisters, Edna Ruth Mein and Edith Bell Crafton.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 Friday, January 15, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Rev. Rob Hughes officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until service time Friday at the funeral home.
