Friday, February 22, 2013 10:12 AM Dorothy Alene Demand, 86, of Smithton, passed away, Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Rest Haven Convalescent Home. She was born on December 10, 1926, in Sedalia, a daughter of Bruce and Veva (Lee) Ulmer.

On December 25, 1943, in Sedalia, she was united in marriage to Louis "Bud"

Kahrs Demand, who preceded her in death on March 25, 2007.

Dorothy worked many years at the Pettis County Courthouse in the Recorder's Office before being elected as the Pettis County Recorder of Deeds. She loved to read and work outdoors in her yard. She always contributed to the family bicentennial farm. She enjoyed traveling, collecting rabbits and shopping. Dorothy was a member of the Lake Creek United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the church choir for many years, and the United Methodist Womens group.

She is survived by two children, Donna (Jeff) Gary of Smithton and Diann (Tom) Gordon of Sedalia; one sister, Karen (Jerry) Wagor of Milford, KS; four grandchildren, Todd LaBille, Dara Wood, Justin Demand and Jordon Hamby.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Dean Demand; one sister, Darlene Meyer and one brother, James Sonny Ulmer; and one grandson, Jared Lee LaBille.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, February 25, 2013, at Lake

Creek United Methodist Church, Smithton, with Rev. Dan Page and Rev. Jason Veale officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
