Dr. Charles William “Bill” Monsees, 85, of Columbia, formerly of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Lenoir Woods, in Columbia.

He was born February 8, 1930, in Sedalia, son of Seltzer Gilbert and Waneta Allcorn Monsees.
On August 30, 1953, in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to JoAn Jones, who survives of the home.

He was a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia Veterinary School. Dr. Monsees was a partner with R.A. Linsenbardt and D.C. Payne in the Sedalia Veterinary Center.

He enjoyed traveling, coin collecting, photography, playing the piano and keyboard, and loved animals, as evidenced through his many years of veterinary practice.

Bill was a member of Harper Chapel in Osage Beach, Missouri. He was a long time member of the Sedalia School Board, a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, and served as the Missouri State Veterinarian from 1983-1986. He volunteered for Christian Veterinary Mission and Heifer International.

He served in the U.S. Army as a meat inspector in the veterinary corps.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by three children, Pamela Huwieler (Robert), of Columbia, Charles William Monsees, Jr., of Sedalia, and Sandy Davis (Kurt), of Maryville; six grandchildren, Kristen Hightower, Nikki Waltemeyer, Megan Evans, Jillian Lyne, Ryan Davis and Tyler Davis; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert L. Monsees, of Ocala, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Sue Miller; and a brother, Cecil Monsees.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2015, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry V. Shores and the Rev. Sandy Monsees Davis officiating.

Casket bearers will be Ryan Davis, Tyler Davis, Brayden Dunlap, Rich Hightower, Brad Evans and Garrett Dunlap.

Honorary bearers will be Kristen Hightower, Karson Evans, Nikki Waltemeyer, Megan Evans, Jillian Lyne and Erica Davis.

Burial will be at Highland Sacred Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Monday at Heckart Funeral Home.
