Dr. Donald C. Proctor, 91, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away January 15, 2015, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.

Don was born January 13, 1924, to Roy G. Proctor and Martha A. Crane in Columbia, Missouri.

Don graduated from Hickman High School in Columbia and attended the University of Missouri, receiving his bachelor degree. Following that he attended Washington University, receiving his medical degree.

His surgical residency was at the University of Oklahoma. Don attended the University of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin, receiving a degree in Meteorology. Following his meteorology training, he joined the Army Air Corps flying through hurricanes assisting naval ships during World War II. After his military service he returned to Sedalia and began his medical career in 1953, retiring in 1989.

Don was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Phi Beta Kappa, first president of Sunrise Optimist, youngest physician to be chief-of-staff at Bothwell Regional Health Center, first doctor to serve on the hospital's board of trustees, president of Pettis County Medical Society, served as Secretary, Vice-President and President of State Fair Community College Board of Trustees from 1966 through 2002, and served on the college foundation board. The college library now bears his name.

Don is survived by his wife, Janet; and children, Steve Proctor (Angelia), Tim Proctor, Ann (Steve) King, Julia (Kim) Whaley, Dawn (Steve) Elliott, Matt Proctor (Linda), Kyle (Roxanne) Herrick, Ben Proctor (Jen), and Elizabeth Proctor; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lee See; and a brother, Cecil Hackley. Don was preceded in death by his parents and twin sons, Tom and Mike Proctor.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, January 16, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Heckart Family Center.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with inurnment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Father Mark Miller will officiate.

The family suggests contributions to Sacred Heart Church, Donald C. Proctor Library, or Missouri Veterans Home Unit D in Warrensburg.
