Many residents in eastern Missouri are assessing damage after strong thunderstorms hit the region.

The storms began Wednesday night and continued into Thursday morning. Large hail damaged several vehicles in St. Charles County.

Winds of up to 60 mph were reported, downing trees and power lines throughout the St. Louis area. Heavy rain caused flash flooding.

Nearly 30,000 Ameren Corp. customers in the St. Louis area lost power at the peak of the storm. A large tree fell onto three homes in St. Louis, near Forest Park. No one was hurt but firefighters had to rescue a dog.
