This week we just celebrated Columbus Day.  To be honest, I'm still not all that sure why we do that.  I mean, sure, for some people it's about Italian pride.  Which is fine.  But really? Christopher Columbus?  It got me to thinking. There's a holiday for everything -- or so it seems. Some of the holidays celebrated across the United States are pretty odd, I dare say.  Take a quick look in your public library's reference section and you're bound to find a copy of Chase's Calendar of Events, the bible of special days and celebrations. One look at Chase's will prove to you that there is a holiday for everything.  Look at this thing.

The volume is thicker than the Manhattan telephone directory! There are a ton: National Nothing Day, National Kazoo Day, Take Your Houseplants for a Walk Day,  National Get a Different Name Day, Yell "Fudge" at the Cobras in North America Day.... you get it.  Those are all REAL, by the way.

See? Huge.

There are so many days out of the year that I just WISH were holidays because I just want one.  Sure, New Year's Day is a holiday, but why isn't New Year's Eve?  That's when all the fun happens.  Boyfriendo would not object if the day after the Super Bowl was a day of rest and relaxation.  I've even heard talk before about making election days holidays.   So that made me think about what you'd make a holiday if you could. If you could create another holiday, what would it be? A day to honor 9/11? How about the Super Bowl? What about the first day of the school year (kids go to school, parents don’t have to go to work – they can just stay home and relax)? Festivus? Let me know what you think and I'll share your answers on the air!

Holidayiously yours,

Behka
