Pie.  It's delicious.  Sometimes, it's nutritious.  And, it's a fun word to say.  PIE.   So that's why it's a big deal that The Central Missouri Agriculture Club is having their 11th Pie Contest.

Entry forms are due Wednesday and judging will take place Saturday, January 24. It's not that complicated to get your pie entered. Each participant needs to enter two identical pies and may enter into any of the three categories: double crust fruit, meringue or mixed medium. In the youth category, ages 10 to 18, entry categories are for double crust fruit pies and mixed medium.  One pie will be cut by Klenke for judging and both will be auctioned off at the banquet that evening. Judging will begin at 1:30 p.m., the banquet at 6 p.m.  I got to talk with Janice Klenke of the CMAC about the pie contest, and where all your efforts and money will go.

All winners will receive an embroidered apron plus a cash prize. In the adult category first prize is $75, second $50 and third $25. In the youth category first prize is $50, second $30 and third $20. The grand prize winner will receive an additional $50 and a gold apron.  Those interested in entering the Ag Pie Contest may pick up the entry form at either east Bing’s, at 1701 E. Broadway Blvd., or west Bing’s, at 1400 S. Limit Ave. Entry deadline is Wednesday. Forms need to be dropped off at Farm Credit Services, 2600 S. Limit Ave., or mailed to Janice Klenke at P.O. Box 131, Sedalia, Mo. 65301.

Tickets for the Ag Banquet may be purchased at several places in Sedalia including FCS Financial, 2600 S. Limit Ave., MFA Agri Service, 2200 Clinton Rd., the University of Missouri Extension Office, 1012A Thompson Blvd. and Jim’s Express Tire and Auto, 200 Winchester Dr. The ticket price for adults is $15; and $13 for children ages 7 to 18; children under 7 are free.  For further information, call Janice Klenke at 473-1140.

Bakingly yours,
