A press release from the Heard House says, This elegant house was begun in 1904 when John T. Heard and Lillian Heard purchased the lot. John Dean was the contractor. The house, built in an eclectic style, features elements of craftsman architecture, Italian Renaissance architecture, and Colonial Revival architecture. In the early twentieth century, houses began to feature amenities such as closets, indoor plumbing, and electric lights. The twelve room Heard House has three full and one half baths, a modern kitchen remodeled in the 1950’s. The Heard House lighting fixtures are in many styles including craftsman, Tiffany, art nouveau, and colonial revival; the fixtures in the reception hall and parlor have both carbide gas and electric fixtures. The upstairs rooms have walk-in closets and built-in cabinets. Hand painted murals of musical i nstruments decorate the wall and ceiling of the former music room, now the dining room. The house was the Heard’s home until Lillian’s Death in 1934. When she left the house to a trust as a memorial to her husband and provided that the Helen G. Steel Music Club and Sorosis be allowed to rent the house as a meeting place. The house is furnished with much of the Heard’s furniture, artwork, and artifacts.
