There was an a fatal accident that occurred at 5:14 yesterday afternoon (April 20) on Highway 50 at Maplewood North Road.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, two vehicles were traveling eastbound on Highway 50. 80-year-old Charlotte Eldenburg, of Sedalia, slowed down to make a left turn onto Maplewood North Road, when the other vehicle, driven by 40-year-old Marion Wheeler of Sweet Springs, overtook and passed Eldenburg in the westbound lane. Eldenburg's vehicle, a 1993 Cadillac El Dorado, turned left into Wheeler's vehicle, a 1997 Kenworth, and struck the passenger side of the tractor and came to a rest lodged under the towed unit. Eldenburg was pronounced dead by the Pettis County Coroner, Ben Banner.

Wheeler did not suffer any injuries, according to the report, but his vehicle did have extensive damage. According to Pettis County Deputies, it took several hours to clear the scene of the accident.
