The Sedalia Fire Department responded to a fire at 208 Ohio St. in downtown Sedalia early this morning (Dec. 14). As of 8:00 a.m. this morning, fire crews were still working to put out the blaze.

UPDATE (Dec.14, 2012, 8:46 a.m.) Gary Huddleston, eyewitness and owner of Let's Dance Ballroom at 204 S. Ohio St., told KSIS that he woke up around 6:15 a.m. to the smell of smoke near his building.  Huddleston called 911 after seeing the smoke outside.  He says the fire started in the thrift shop at 208 S. Ohio and has damaged the "A Touch of Whimsey" shop next door 210 S. Ohio St.

The buildings in historic downtown Sedalia were built over 100 years ago.  The businesses currently in that location have used that building for only several months.  Huddleston says the roofs on both shops have caved in as a result of the damage.  Crews continue to fight the blaze which appears to be well contained.

The video below was taken by Kevin Walker at the scene of the fire. We are receiving photos of the blaze and will upload them here as we receive them.
