First Carpe Diem Festival Held in Downtown Sedalia [PHOTOS]

Downtown Sedalia was the happening place to be on Saturday (April 13) with the very first Carpe Diem Festival in Sedalia. The 2012 Mayor’s Junior Civic Leaders Group chose the Carpe Diem Festival as their initiative project.

This festival was geared towards good family fun with a pirate ship and princess bounce house, ring toss, Frisbee toss, face painting, food, vendors, car show and art show on Ohio Street. There were demonstrations done by the 509^th Security Forces K-9 team, a chemistry demonstration and some good ol' fashioned fun.

The Carpe Diem Festival had two phases to it. From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., the activities surrounded the Pettis County Courthouse, then moved to Maple Leaf Park for a Battle of the Bands and karaoke entertainment.

Mayor Elaine Horn was impressed with the work the Junior Civic Leaders Group put into this event and was pleased with that the weather was cooperative. All those involved should be proud of the work and effort they put in to attract people downtown and give families some fun, family entertainment. I do hope this becomes an annual event.
