As you've probably heard a time or two by now, our Show Me Honor Flight Radiothon is coming up on Thursday, Nov. 6.  Now in case you've been living under a rock, I thought I'd take a second to tell you what we're doing and why we're doing it.About six or seven years ago, a friend and I went on a big vacation to the east coast.  We spent a week in New York, and then spent some time in Washington DC.  I got to go on the National Mall at night and during the day, and it is a beautiful sight.

This is my horrible picture of the World War Two Memorial.   And here's a slightly less horrible photo by my friend of the Korean War Memorial.

Another great memorial on the national mall is the Vietnam Memorial.

Which I tried to get  a shot from a distance so you can see how huge it really is; when you see it in pictures or on TV, you usually see it up close, and don't get me wrong, that's very beautiful and evocative, but it's also surprisingly long.  You'd never really understand the scope of it if you hadn't seen it in person.  That's why seeing these things up close having it right in front of you is absolutely irreplaceable as an experience and as a memory.

Seeing these memorials in person is very moving for a regular person like me.  Imagine how important that would be to someone who gave so much in the service of their country in some of these past conflicts.  These memorials are a justification, a celebration, a validation - they're very cathartic.  They're an embodiment in stone of all the pain, work, sacrifice, doubt and heartbreak these vets have had to endure.   Veterans Day is coming up, and one great way to thank your local veterans is to put your money where your mouth is.  And, you can do that literally!

Jason Reardon, with Freddy's Steakburgers talked with me about what they'll be doing from now til the end of the month and what they'll be doing for Veteran's Day.

So stop by any of the locations in Columbia, St Peters, Jefferson City and here in Sedalia on Veteran's Day from 5:00- 9:00 p.m, and they'll donate 15% of the proceeds right to the Honor Flight.  If you don't want to wait, they'll ask every customer from now til the end of the month to donate $1 to the cause.

Donate to the Show Me Honor Flight Radiothon in whatever way you can, and thank any veteran you may know, see, or meet.  And make sure to say thanks to those in active military service, too. Our Radiothon kicks off tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m. - don't miss out on your chance to get involved.

Radiothon-ily yours,

Behka
