Residents of Sedalia are encouraged to take advantage of an offer from the Sedalia Fire Department, American Red Cross, and their community partners. The Sedalia Fire Department will be installing free smoke alarms for residents that need them from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 30.

Trained volunteers will also talk about fire safety and how families should prepare for home emergencies during the April 30 event.

This program is part of a nationwide campaign to reduce home fire deaths and injuries. Home fires kill an average of seven people each day in the United States. "More lives are lost every year to home fires than all major disasters combined," says the American Red Cross.

To schedule the installation of a free smoke alarm, even if not on April 30, or to find out more about the program, contact the Sedalia Fire Department at 660-826-8044
