Gladys Zimmerschied, age 94, of Sedalia, passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 at Fair View Nursing Home. She was born December 8, 1919, to Carl F. and Lillian K. Semkin Zimmerschied near Mora, Missouri. She was a single woman who worked for many years caring for children both at the Boys Home in Marshall, MO and the Children’s Home affiliated with the United Church of Christ in Illinois. When her parents became elderly, she cared for them in their home for several years. Upon retirement, she moved to Sedalia and lived in the Saddlewood Apartments for many years.

She was an active member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Sedalia. She was quiet, soft-spoken woman who lived a strong Christian life as a caregiver to many. She is survived by a sister, Irene Roloff of St. Charles, MO and a sister-in-law, Marie Zimmerschied and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, a sister, Gertrude Siegel of Cole Camp, MO, and two brothers, Edwin and Lawrence Zimmerschied.

Funeral services will be held at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Leora Bremer officiating. Visitation will precede the service at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Highland Sacred Gardens in Sedalia. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, Immanuel United Church of Christ of Sedalia, or a charity of the donor’s choice, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
