JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Gov. Jay Nixon has made a friendly wager with Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick on the outcome of the 2013 World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Boston Red Sox.

Gov. Nixon is staking: a four-pack of Cardinal Cream Soda from Fitz’s Bottling Company; a box of handcrafted chocolates from Bissinger’s Chocolates; and an assortment of Italian baked goods from Missouri Baking Company on The Hill.

Gov. Patrick is staking: New England Clam Chowder from Legal Sea Foods; a selection of baked goods from Dancing Deer Baking Co.; and a variety of Polar Beverages seltzers.
Gov. Nixon said he looked forward to enjoying the spoils of victory that would be forthcoming from the Bay State.

“After the aberration of 2004, I look forward to the world seeing our Cardinals putting things back in their rightful order with the Red Sox, just as they did in 1946 and 1967,” Gov. Nixon said. “Hoisting the trophy would be a fitting tribute to Baseball’s Perfect Knight, the late Stan Musial, and winning the wager with Gov. Patrick will cap off a great week of baseball.”

Gov. Nixon added that he would throw in a few made-in-St. Louis Tums to help Gov. Patrick settle his stomach after watching the Cardinals triumph over the Red Sox.

“I thank the producers of these fine Massachusetts products but I don't think my friend Governor Nixon will get to enjoy them," said Gov. Patrick. “The team, the fans and the Commonwealth are ready for a great series with St. Louis -- and a great victory.”
