The Katy Depot will feature the great-great grandson of ragtime promoter, John Stark, as part of the the 'First Friday' events.

The 'First Friday' event for June will coincide with the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival.

Kyle Stark is the great-great grandson of John Stark - founder of the Stark Music Company and the man responsible for signing the musical contract with Scott Joplin - that launched Joplin on his musical career with the soon-to-be world famous, “The Mapleleaf Rag.”

Kyle Stark is a native of St. Louis who now lives in Warrenton, MO, and owns Stark Printing Company in St. Louis. Stark will discuss the contributions his family made to the history of ragtime music, as well as a number of family-stories passed down through the years, including one about how John Stark and Joplin really met.

Refreshments will be served at 5:30 with the presentation following at 6:00 p.m. These events are open to the public, but seating is limited and reservations are required by Thursday, June 1st.

A $5 suggested donation will be taken at the door. For more information and to make reservations, call the Depot at 826-2932.
