Here's news that I absolutely hate to hear. When I was a kid, my family would frequently visit my grandma who lived in Jefferson City. One of the highlights of our visits was almost always a trip to Hastings, where I picked up a ton of comic books that are among the "iconic" comics of the 1990s. Multiple media outlets are reporting that Hastings will be liquidating, and all of their stores will be closed by October.

The St. Joseph News-Press cites a company press release that says over 100 Hastings stores across the country must be closed by October 31, though the dates of individual store liquidations and closures will be "dealt with on a store-by-store basis."

Hastings filed for Chapter 11 protection on June 13, then discontinued game rentals, the Hastings buyback program, and stopped accepting deposits for future movie purchases. Hastings gift cards expired on July 13.

In addition to Warrensburg and Jefferson City, Hastings also has stores in St. Joseph, Poplar Bluff, Cape Girardeau and Kirksville. The company has half-a-dozen locations in Kansas, and stores in neighboring states to Missouri, like Oklahoma, Arkansas and Tennessee.
