Hazel Nathalia McDowell, 96, of Florence, MO passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014 at her daughter’s home in Otterville, MO. She was born on May 10, 1918 in Morgan County, MO, the daughter of Harry and Auguste (Schupp) Loeffler.

On May 10, 1937 at in Camden County, MO she was united in marriage to Ralph M. McDowell, who preceded her in death in November of 1995.

Hazel graduated from Otterville High School in 1935.  She enjoyed quilting and was a member of The Quilting Grannies of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Florence.  Hazel loved to read and especially loved her dog Coco. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Otterville Senior Citizens and Florence United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Charlotte E. (McDowell) Morrison and her husband Jim of Otterville; four grandchildren, Chris, Brian and his wife Katie, Andrew, David and his wife Maria Morrison; three great grandchildren, Ben, Hayden and Halle.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son and daughter at infancy; her brother, Harry H. Loeffler, Jr. and his wife Betty; and a grandchild at infancy.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Florence United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jorge Arvelo officiating.

Family will receive friends following the service, until 8:00 pm.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Florence U.M.C. and Sedalia Salvation Army in care of Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.
