The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has awarded the Human Resource Management Association of West Central Missouri (HRMA) its prestigious EXCEL Platinum Award for the Chapter’s accomplishments in 2017.

The award aligns individual chapters’ and state councils’ activities with SHRM’s aspirations for the HR profession. The award recognizes accomplishments and strategic activities and initiatives that enhance the human resource profession.

“SHRM exists because of our great chapters like HRMA which work tirelessly to help advance the important mission of the HR profession through initiatives that support our future, build inclusive organizations and focus on workplace readiness,” said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, president and chief executive officer of SHRM. “Recognizing you as a recipient of this prestigious award is just one way to show that SHRM supports you and that we are by your side step by step as we move Together Forward.”

The EXCEL Award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Each level has a prescribed set of requirements and accomplishments that must be met. The Human Resource Management Association of West Central Missouri will receive recognition in SHRM publications and at conferences, a logo to display on its website, and information to share with its members about the significance of this award.

“Under the leadership of our previous Chapter President, Amy Jackson, and a great Chapter Board, HRMA was able to meet the goals of our Chapter in promoting the HR profession”, said Robin Balke, HRMA 2018 Chapter President. “Whether someone is part of an HR department at their company or they are an HR department of one at their business, HRMA strives to provide its members with up-to-date information on the latest employment laws as well as ideas for improving their company’s culture. The role of HR within a business is not as easy as it looks."

HRMA of West Central Missouri is a local chapter of SHRM and meets bi-monthly at Best Western-State Fair Inn.  With a different guest speaker each meeting, members are able to hear presentations covering a wide array of employment issues and employment law. The meetings provide professional development, Continuing Education Credits, and an excellent opportunity to network with other human resources professionals in the region.

The chapter sponsors a one-day HR Conference each March and recently partnered with the Missouri Job Center and United Way for an HR Day of Service-Employment Expo.
