James Bert Helmig, 56, of Pleasant Valley, died Thursday, January 29, 2015, at his home.

He was born April 13, 1958, in Sedalia, son of Elmer Gene Sr. and Mary Lou Evans Helmig. On January 1, 2001, in Barnhart, MO, he married Bonnie G. Hicks, who survives of the home.

Bert worked for Bayer Crop Science in Kansas City as a maintenance mechanic. He enjoyed tractor pulls and was a member of the Brush Pullers Association. He also enjoyed going to NASCAR races and farm toy shows, and collecting racing memorabilia and farm toys. He loved his two dogs, Shorty and Tanner. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three children, James W. Helmig (Kim), of Arnold, MO, Robert Cody Helmig (Rachael), of Moscow Mills, MO, and Ryan Hicks (Kim), of Fenton, MO; his parents, Elmer and Lou Helmig, of Otterville; two grandchildren, Kylie Lynn Helmig and Jamie Michele Helmig; five siblings, Gene Helmig (Vonnie), of Columbus Junction, IA, Michael Helmig (Janet), of Dublin, TX, Dale Helmig, of Little Rock, AR, Richard Helmig (Debra), of Otterville, and Annette Cornine (Ronnie), of Otterville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Leroy Moon officiating.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 2, at Heckart Funeral Home.
